Measuring Up:
$25,000 Funding
for Accessibility Review
Team Nanaimo is proud to announce that the successful grant application for the “Measuring Up” initiative has garnered $25,000 from the provincial government to study accessibility for persons with a disability in Nanaimo.
The proposal was put forth the proposal this spring. Lesley Lorenz
(vice-chair) and Bert Abbott of Team Nanaimo stated, "Our objectives
are to define the most important issues persons with a disability
face in Nanaimo, to create an awareness of these issues among the
general public including city officials, and to make recommendations
as to the most effective and efficient ways to alleviate some of these
issues, including special focus on the project areas of sport/leisure,
housing and employment opportunities for people living with a variety
of disabilities."
Our preliminary introduction of the Measuring Up Task Force
has created considerable interest in various sectors of our community,
and the following people have expressed their intention to be a part
of the committee: |
